On November 8th, MYP and DP students celebrated the festival of Halloween. Ascend has been known for its fun and exciting events, and this one was one of them. Halloween was a way for the students to have fun, take a break, express themselves and bond with one another. These past few months have been packed with many events, from the Garba, to Diwali, and Halloween seemed to be a perfect spooky one to follow these with. Students got the opportunity to express themselves, being as creative as possible, being dressed up in scary, funny, and creative costumes, with many during duo, trio and group costumes.
The event had an ongoing competition for the best costumes. This let the students have a sense of competition, with one another, trying to create the most creative costumes. There were a variety of costumes seen, varying from frat boys, teletubbies, to teachers dressing up as reflection forms and grades. To showcase these many costumes, all students in each grade level walked on a runway, an opportunity for the students to show off their unique and creative costumes, making it an enjoyable event for everyone. It was evident that each student put a lot of thought and effort into each of the costumes, whether it was scary, original, in a group or solo.
As exciting the costumes and festivities were, there was also a lot of food for the students to enjoy as halloween is known for its delicious treats. Everyone got brownies, cookies and candy being a great accompaniment to the event. As the event went on, as most ascend events end, the last 20 minutes of the event turned into a dance, with everyone enjoying the music as they danced in their halloween costumes. When asked about the event, one of the students said “ The event was planned really well, and it was decorated and organised perfectly. “
Although it was very fun there were inevitably some mixed feelings about the event. One of the students exclaimed, ” I had a lot of fun, but it would have been nice to have more interactive activities”. This Halloween event was a little different from others we’ve had, as there have been halloweens with many different games and events, which could’ve made it even more interesting. Many students also suggested that the event could have been longer, and more in depth, which would have allowed us to do even more interesting things.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable event for all the students, allowing us to take a break from our hectic school lives, walking runways, showing off our costumes with friends, eating delicious food, and lots of dancing.
