The India vs Australia 2020-21 test match series has left India emerging victorious on January 19th 2021. People say that test matches are the truest form of cricket, a true test of grit, power and resilience. These test matches were just that jaw dropping.

The first test went Australia’s way, where they bowled India out for 36 in the third innings. The second test went India’s way, aided by stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane’s century. The 3rd test was a draw, a true show of  what the Indians are made of. Heroes Ravichandran Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari batted for almost three hours. The last test seemed iffy. However, India took home the series once again.

This series was a momentous occasion for numerous reasons namely, as Australia had been undefeated for 32 games at the Gabba. That is until India struck!  By the middle of the test, India needed a run rate of 6. In a test match that is a lot to ask for. But Rishabh Pant powered India through to victory. He was unbeaten at 89*. Pant and Washington Sundar formed an outstanding partnership to win India the game. Pant finished the game in style by hitting a 4. Despite India missing captain Virat Kohli, and other key players due to numerous injuries, pulling together a team of bowlers with only 4 tests worth of experience, they still managed to power through the series and get the win.  Australian coach Justin Langer said, “Never ever underestimate India”

Lessons learnt; this is a new India, one which hopes to win instead of just lose.
