Greta Thunberg, a Swedish climate activist, who has taken on the global mission of ‘making a difference.’  Greta Thunberg, the young 16-year-old girl who has brought about more awareness about climate change than so many influential people, put together. For all the backlash she has received, we should take a look at what she has done and the sacrifices she has made. Many people can talk about her flaws, but can they not see what she has done. When so many people crib and complain about climate change, what exactly are they doing to change it?

She was the person who single-handedly lit a spark in so many hearts and started a series of protests that made headlines worldwide. These protests were conducted by students, where they marched and skipped school to do so. They put aside their education to fight for the world. These protests took place worldwide, even in our school where we had a protest in favor of her and it was heartwarming to see children care and shape their futures. If it wasn’t for Greta Thunberg it is very unlikely that this would protest have taken place. This protest and Greta’s speeches, like the one on TedX,  awoke so many people and educated them about the deadly consequences if changes weren’t made, Right Now. Even people who were aware of climate change and its implications, such as extinction,  but didn’t take initiative as Greta did. It is a very common trait for one to wait for others to work while they enjoy positive impacts. This was the mindsets of so many influential and rich people, that were well-aware of the current crisis, but refused to pay attention. They have the means of making a change, such as money, power, and respect. But they don’t use these things to do the right thing. It was the young girl Greta Thunberg who decided to take charge and make a change by spreading awareness.

She started by skipping school and holding signs, standing outside the Sweden Parliamentary before elections. Even though she has been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, OCD and selective mutism, she was the one who got everyone thinking about climate change and who started a whole chain of change and awareness. Greta Thunberg isn’t like many other people, who just talk for publicity. Throughout her life, she has made many sacrifices for the benefit of the climate and the earth. She is completely vegan and has been asking her parents and the world to do the same. After lots of persuasions, her parents too have become vegan. She also upcycles, which is to make good use of waste. Moreover, she doesn’t fly by flights as they are one of the biggest contributors to pollution, global warming and climate change everywhere. She sailed across the Atlantic to get the United States because of this sacrifice.

By doing the above she is setting a great example for people of all statuses and ages all over the world. Unlike the governments and corporations everywhere, she constantly backs up her words with action, like going vegan, no matter what people say or think. By doing this she is not only proving herself to be a very good global citizen but setting an example and inspiring people to be the same. So instead of throwing insults at a girl who has done nothing but right, can we do something for our earth and our future? Why wait around for others, make a change while you still can! For there is no Plan(et) B.
