As the year draws to a close, events celebrating the progress we have made through the year begin to pop up, and this year Ms Radhika and Mr Rohit organized an incredible potluck for the football, basketball and swim teams of Ascend.
For football and basketball players the potluck was on the 28th morning, while for the swimmers the potluck was on the 29th morning. Each student brought their own breakfast food, creating a large spread ranging from poha to waffles for the students, coaches and parents to enjoy alike. It was a really incredible morning, as the clear friendships and bonds formed across varying grade levels due to the love of sports shone the brightest. It was also great for the football and basketball teams to interact with each other, and bond over the shared triumphs through the year.
Once everyone had arrived and begun eating and enjoying the breakfast foods, Ms Radhika and Mr Rohit grabbed the attention
of the athletes and parents, and began talking about the progress the sports team have made this year, with Mr Rohit saying– “We have participated in so many more tournaments this year, some we have won, some we have lost, but most of all we are getting that exposure and experience that are so important for athletes”, he went on to say– “This is the first year Ascend has really put themselves on the map in terms of sports, and I’m excited to see what next year holds”. The coaches were thanked alike and then students ran down to play either basketball or football and begged for one last practice of the year.
When asking Ms Radhika what she thinks the year has been like for Ascend in terms of sports, she commented saying– “We’ve really grown, and for the first time we participated in ISSO with all the other international schools. It acted as a platform not only in a competitive way, but to come back and realize what we needed to work, and acknowledge our strengths.” She added– “We’ve taken part in a lot of local and friendly tournaments
that has also been super encouraging! We are only going to grow and evolve from here.”
This potluck, while a great reason for students, parents and coaches to interact also served as a milestone marking a turning point of sports in Ascend. As Ms Radhika mentioned with all three– basketball, football and swimming traveling across the country to participate in tournaments, to there being tournaments for each team to participate in every month, the progress created this year has been incredible, and there no one else to thank other than the athletes sheer work and determination, as well as all the coaches, Ms Radhika and Mr Rohit themselves and all those that work behind the scenes!
